Why Does Ice Float?

"Why doesn't ice sink to the bottom of water?"

💡 Simple Explanation

Water is made of teeny tiny balls called molecules that like to cuddle together. When water gets really cold and turns into ice, the molecules need more space - like when you spread your arms out wide! Because the molecules spread apart, ice becomes like a fluffy pillow that's lighter than water. That's why ice floats on top of your drink!

🎉 Fun Fact!

If ice sank instead of floating, fish couldn't survive in frozen ponds in winter!
